Version 3.21 (Released November November 16, 2006)

  • Resolved an issue that could cause NetModem Client to fail authenticate using Active Directory under certain conditions.

Version 3.20 (Released November 1, 2006)

  • NetModem Server now has a Virtual Phone Book feature, allowing administrators to assign pseudo phone numbers to clients, which are translated to the actual phone number when dialing out. This simplifies management, allowing phone numbers for specific services to be changed without needing to globally reconfigure every dialout user's terminal with the new phone number(s).

  • NetModem Server now has configurable usage hours, definable for each pool. This allows an administrator to limit access to modems and devices to specific hours and days of the week.

  • NetModem Server now has a checkbox option to open ports using Round Robin, cycling each shared COM port rather then selecting the first COM port available.

  • NetModem Server now has a checkbox option to open COM ports using TAPI instead of the standard method. The alternative method supports certain USB modems with poorly designed COM port drivers.

  • The OpenSSL encryption library was updated to version 0.9.8d, which was released by the OpenSSL development team on September 28, 2006.
This includes a number of important SSL/TLS bugfixes added to the OpenSSL library since the previous release dated September 5, 2006. For a detailed list, see http://www.openssl.org/news/changelog.html    Encryption is not available in some countries.

Version 3.10 (Released September 20, 2006)

  • NetModem Client now has a Server Failover feature, allowing easy access to backup modem servers if a primary server is unavailable. Lists of Modem Servers the client should attempt to use can be defined. If a client is unable to establish a connection with the first server on the list, or if a server reports that all the shared modems are in use, the client will automatically attempt to contact the next server in the list. This allows backup modem servers to be defined in mission critical environments.

  • The OpenSSL encryption library was updated to version 0.9.8c, which was offically released by the OpenSSL development team on September 5, 2006.
This includes a number of important SSL/TLS bugfixes added to the OpenSSL library since the previous release dated May 4, 2006. For a detailed list, see http://www.openssl.org/news/changelog.html    Encryption is not available in some countries.

  • The NetModem Client Configurations "Server Connection Test" interface has been enhanced. Checking for modems is now optional, and the test will allow most configuration issues to be corrected automatically. Support was also added to test the new Server Failover feature.

  • Several minor GUI enhancments were made to NetModem Server, such as allowing the Status Tab window to be resized independently from the other windows, and allowing ranges of ports to be moved to/from the pool lists.

Version 3.07 (Released July 15, 2006)

  • NetModem Server now issues a TAPI reset each time a COM port is opened in TAPI mode. TAPI is enabled by default only if a modem driver is installed on the COM port.

  • Several minor enhancments were made to the OpenSSL interface, to take advantage of features in the OpenSSL version 0.9.8b library.

Version 3.06 (Released June 17, 2006)

  • NetModem Server's "User Access List" now displays only user/group objects in one domain at a time on the left select list. A domain pulldown list above this allows selecting any other domains. This was done to accomidate networks with a large number of domains.

  • During User Authentication, if an allowed group contained other groups, those other groups were not being allowed to authenticate unless they were also added to the allowed list seperatly. Groups containing groups are now recursivly authenticated.

  • NetModem Client's SSL Certificate Authorities file now include an Intermediate CA certificate for Starfield Technologies, a subsidiary of Godaddy.com.

Version 3.05 (Released May 10, 2006)

  • The OpenSSL encryption library was updated to version 0.9.8b, which was released by the OpenSSL development team on May 4, 2006.
This includes a number of important SSL/TLS bugfixes added to the OpenSSL library since the previous release dated October 11, 2005. For a detailed list, see http://www.openssl.org/news/changelog.html    Encryption is not available in some countries.

  • The NetModem Client Configurations "Server Connection Test" could unexpectedly abort if the IP address of the defined server was on another subnet which was unreachable. This issue was introduced in version 3.0. Fixed.

  • Minor enhancements were made to the NetModem Client virtual COM driver.

Version 3.04 (Released April 17, 2006)

  • When a client opens a COM port, NetModem Server now wait a maximum of 1 second for a clients IP address to resolve before logging the hostname to the logfile. If it takes longer then 1 second to resolve, then the hostname will be logged as "unknown" until the IP has sucessfully been resolved.

  • NetModem Server now has a "Default Flow Control" setting under the Pool Options. This setting is useful only if there are non-NetModem clients connecting to NetModem Server via telnet which are unable to make flow control settings on their own.

Version 3.03 (Released April 3, 2006)

  • NetModem v3 is offically released to the public, replacing v2.

Version 3.02
(Pre-Released March 23, 2006)

  • NetModem Client now improves the speed of applications using Software (Xon/Xoff) Flow Control, by allowing Xon/Xoff commands to be transparently converted to hardware based flow control on the server.

  • NetModem Server now communicates with the hardware using the TAPI interface instead of the COM port. This improves compatibility with certain software modems that have faulty COM port emulation or slow sleep response.

  • Added timing fix for older versions of Reflection software due to changes in NetModem 3.0

  • Fixed compatibility issue with AT&T global Network Client caused by changes in 3.0

Version 3.01 (Pre-Released March 14, 2006)

  • The allpools.log is no longer created if there is only one modem pool defined.

  • Resolved a minor issue with the OpenSSL certificate interface.

  • NetModem Clients "Server Connection Test" will ask if it should automatically fix any SSL encryption mismatch errors when it encounters such an error, by adjusting itself to what the server demands.

Version 3.00 (Pre-Released February 28, 2006)

  • This is a preview of a major update to NetModem Server and client, only made available to select customers and the beta team.

  • NetModem Server's logging now supports MySQL, Microsoft-SQL, Access, Excel, FoxPro, and all other ODBC compatible database formats. Standard ASCII textfile logging is also supported. Many other enhancements have been made to the logging format, providing more detailed information. This allows scripts and third party report generators such as Crystal Reports to generate complex reports of the modem pool usage and security settings.

  • NetModem now uses the OpenSSL 0.9.8 Encryption library, which provides a secure connection between the clients and the server, even over an insecure environment such as the Internet. Encryption ciphers supported include RC2, RC4, DES, 3DES, and AES up to 256 bits. SSL Authentication allows the client to confirm that the the NetModem Server's certificate is valid. Note: Encryption is not available in all countries subject to cryptography export laws.

  • Improved support for USB modems has been added, allowing virtually any USB modem to be used.

  • Updating the routing table is now optional, defined in the NetModem Client Configuration under Advanced.

  • Improved Active Directory support, which now supports user authentication in environments with multiple Domain Controllers.
